The St Mark's Players

For the first time our Spring Plays will be a joint production involving not only the St Mark's Players but also the young people from Stage Door who will perform "Little G.I.T.S.", specially written for them by Garry Watson.  The Players will perform "A Vote for Glenshoogle" and "The 'G' Factor".  All three plays are brand new with each receiving its "World Premiere".

Originally planned for late June we have had to bring forward the performance dates to suit cast and crew availability and will now present Garry's three latest plays on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 June.  In addition we will perform these productions as a special "Malawi Fundraiser" on Thursday 12 June.  Each evening will see three plays accompanied by a Farmhouse Tea and all for just £7.00 a ticket.  Tickets went on sale on Sunday 18 May.

The Thursday performance will be more widely advertised to other churches with all the evening's proceeds going to Malawi.  Unlike other St Mark's events to support Mpachika, our twinned congregation, this event will support all of the churches in Malawi with Aberdeen connections.

Our previous performance was Cabaret 2007, 100 Years of Laughter & Tears - A History of Musical Theatre - . This was presented in the Church Hall on Thursday 29 & Friday 30 November and Saturday 1 December at 7.30pm nightly.  Tickets  included a Cabaret Supper.  Watch again here and read on to see what we said about ourselves in the Easter 2008 Messenger. (This article has been edited slightly to deal with a late change to the production dates - and the price of the tickets.)

Thank you to everyone who came along and supported us in our Christmas Production, "100 Years of Laughter and Tears, a History of Musical Theatre".

If you had seen our final rehearsal, rather than the actual performances, we doubt you would have come back to see us - ever!  They do say that, "It'll be alright on the night" and in our case that was true.  Well if the audience reaction was anything to go by - you were wonderful!

We at least enjoyed the show despite all of the hard work and we do really want to thank Garry for all he put into the production and especially Anne for her work with the costumes.  Many of you commented on our "Black and White" first half as well as on individual performances.  We thought, and you did as well, that our soloists particularly, were something special.  If you are reading this and didn't see the show (or if you did) you will have a chance to see us again, quite soon, when we do our Spring Plays and "Famous Farmhouse Teas".

Garry is writing three short plays for us so that all of the cast of both the 'Players' and 'Stage Door' can take part and we are all looking forward to these productions.  The performances will take place in the hall on Friday and Saturday 13 and 14 June and tickets will be priced at £7.00.  Look out for further details when tickets go on sale in the near future.

Prior to the Christmas Cabaret our previous performance was the Spring Plays presented in May 2007.  Following the usual format with a Farmhouse Tea served at the interval these two original scripts by Garry Watson saw further insights into the life of "Glenshoogle".  New minister, Rev Godfrey Goodchild visits his non-churchgoing sister in "Let Us Worship" (See the opening here with more on subsequent pages in our album) and Abigail Twigg starts up a new "Slim Kwick" class for the ladies of the Guild in "Weight Botchers" available here.

Previously the Players presented their "Christmas 2006 Panto" 'Scrooge in Fittie'.  With the script by Alistair Clinton based on Charles Dickens' Christmas Carol and adapted by John Watson audiences were treated to a truly funny telling of the well known story of a man turned from meanness to magnanimity overnight.  But don't just take my word for it, look at our on-line Album to see the results.

If you are interested in joining the St Mark's Players, on stage, back stage or in any capacity speak to Garry Watson the Drama Club President, any cast member or e-mail UncleSandy with your details.
