Stage Door

Stage Door is the name which the younger members of the St Mark's Players chose for themselves when it was decided that they should form their own group to perform independently from the adult members.  This is however not a break-away group and the youngsters remain an integral part of the Players.

Stars in Their Eyes

June 2007 saw the second independent production by Stage Door.  Loosely based on the TV show of the same name, "Stars in Their Eyes" saw audiences wonderfully entertained by a high-tech production with "live" video introductions and live performances as the young cast became stars of yesterday and today.

Whilst the first act saw individual and group performances representing artistes as diverse as Dusty Springfield, The Beatles, Celine Dione and "Old MacDonald" as well as many others, the second act gave us polished extracts from "High School Musical", "Les Miserables", "Jesus Christ Superstar" and "Fame" as well as an Abba medley featuring our own Abba lookalikes!

Look back at the show with our photographic record of the production.  If you want to see more of this show and the previous performance by this talented group of young people have a look at their own bebo site.

Previous Show

June 2005 introduced "Stage Door" for the first time and owing to an unfortunate accident involving a broken ankle for co-producer Lynne Watson we had to wait until 2007 for their next offering but as you can read above we were not disappointed.  Neither were we disappointed with the initial offering from our junior St Mark's Players, "Fairytale".

"Fairytale" was written for Stage Door by Drama Club President, Garry Watson and tells the story of Katie, a young street child who wakes up one morning in a place she doesn't recognise and meets a whole cast of characters she doesn't know.  Katie and her doll, Sally soon realise that they are travelling through Fairyland and in order to get back home must travel through this magical land to meet the Fairy Queen.

As well as discovering that Sally can talk, Katie also has to cope with Christmas Elves, Easter Bunnies, Russian Dolls and assorted fairies before she meets the Fairy Queen and enters upon a whole new adventure.

Garry wrote all the lyrics and music for the show as well as the story but this was a collaberative effort involving all of the cast, who suggested ideas, choreography and stage direction. If you were unfortunate enough to miss the show I hope our photographic journey through "Fairytale" will give you some idea.
