The Projects Committee Page - One

This committee was set up shortly after our centenary in 1992 to drive the fundraising effort to meet the cost of re-leading the dome and refurbishing the building.  There is however always something to do and so the Committee under its convenor, Anne Donaldson, continues to keep up its work and at the same time foster the St Mark's spirit of outreach and fellowship.  With so much to report one page is simply not enough and so a second page has been added to hold older items.

One of the Projects Committee's popular events is the Annual Garden Party hosted by Lynn and Colin Thomson at their Bridge of Don home. Allowing both fun and fellowship this happy event also make a regular contribution to the Projects Fund.

The July 2011 Garden Party

The 2011 Garden Party was planned as a further Grianan Garden Gathering because Lynn & Colin were involved with their new house in Orkney.  Regrettably July 2011 will go down in history as one of the wettest summers on record.  24 hours before the Gathering the rain fell all day and a decision was taken, so as to avoid disapointment, to move the venue to the Church Hall, for the first time ever.  Notices were displayed during the Church Coffee Morning, phone calls, e-mails and text messages told as many ticket holders as possible and a sign was also displayed on site in case people did turn up at Grianan.  In the event the altered arrangements went well, the "Garden" Party was well attended and the amount raised was the best ever in the history of the event.  The thanks of the Projects Committee go out to everyone who attended, helped on the day and supported us in so many ways.  You can see how it all went here .

From the Spring 2011 "Messenger"

We will be holding an evening of  'Jewellery, Handbags and Scarves’ on Wednesday 11th May, 7.30 in the Hall.  Tickets are £3.00 and refreshments are included.

The Garden Party will be held on Sunday 17th July, Alex has again agreed to host this event in his garden as Lynn and Colin are still busy with their new home in Orkney.

Although it was decided that the last Charity Shop was to be the LAST, we have had so much good bric-a-brac donated to the Church that we have decided to have the shop again.  We have been allocated the week beginning 12th September.

If you have any good clothes and bric-a-brac please bring them along to the Church or ‘phone me at 575663.

Summer Coffee Mornings 2011

The first Coffee Morning will be on Saturday 4th June and then each Saturday morning until the beginning of September.

Please come along and bring your friends, your support is what makes these events a success and, as always, your donations of home baking and raffle prizes will be gratefully received.

  The July 2010 Garden Party

The 2010 event was a repeat of the "Grianan Garden Gathering" held in 2008.  "Grianan" is Gaelic meaning, "a sunny spot" and on 18 July 2010, it most certainly was.  Although it rained early in the morning and remained overcast by 2.00pm the sun was shining and the afternoon grew ever warmer, so much so that extra chairs from both the kitchen and the dining room were brought outside to accommodate all those who attended.  Guests however were encouraged to go inside to visit the Home Baking Stall, which was very popular all afternoon.  In the sunshine the ice cream and crushed strawberries proved to be a popular choice and literally gallons of tea and coffee were drunk to wash down the selection of freshly made sandwiches, cakes, pancakes, tray bakes, etc etc.  Added to all of this the prize raffle and a range of quizzes made for a popular and enjoyable afternoon.  If you didn't make it (or even if you did) you can see it here
