Since the last magazine article the ramblers have been bitten by the walking bug and have done three walks.  The first was a short walk alongside the River Don from Seaton Park to Persley Bridge and return. The second was a walk from the bus station along the banks of the river Dee and up to Tollohill woods on the Causeymounth Road. It was a nice walk and it was pleasing to be joined by some new walkers.

The Royal Cairns walk that was planned for Thursday 21st April was changed at short notice to a bus run to Stonehaven and walk through Dunnottar woods to the Castle and back to Stonhaven. The mist didn’t lift much on this walk and we couldn’t see the Castle it was so thick. It was nice to get out and stretch the legs and if you would like to join us on any of the planned walks please contact Ian Lord on (01224) 321882 or mobile 07929720846

Two walkers took to the hills on 9th June and ventured onto Cairnwell and Carn Aosda.  Although the weather stayed dry for this summer walk the winter hill gear was used to keep the bitterly cold wind at bay especially when they stopped for a cuppa!

One of our planned walks was changed owing to a poor weather forecast.  The three walkers decided to take a town walk and stops at the Maritime museum for coffee and the OAK cafe for lunch were enjoyed.

Some other walks planned had to be cancelled owing to weather or work commitments

Future walks planned are;

Thursday 14 October From Culter along old railway line
Wednesday 27 October Walk back from Cove along cliff path
Thursday 4 November Brimmond and Elrick hills and sculpture trail
Wednesday 24 November Phone for details of walk
Thursday 2 December Phone for details of walk

Walking back from Culter along the old railway line and the walk from Cove along the cliff top path; both of these rely on taking the bus to the starts.

For  information on the later walks please contact:  Ian Lord on 321882

From the Summer 2010 “Messenger”

Clachnaben was the destination for two brave walkers on 17th March. It was a good walk and stayed dry but was a little cold on top with a bit of snow underfoot.

14th April saw the same two walkers tackle a circular walk of Loch Muick with even time for a paddle,  although the water was a little chilly.

Four walkers took the bus to Drumoak on 22nd April and then walked to Crathes, it was a nice day but a little cold at times. The sun came out for a short spell while we had our sandwich lunch, but later as we walked towards Banchory the rain came on and saw us getting an earlier bus home.

The following are the dates for some walks later in the year.  Some of the destinations for the later walks have not been finalised.

Monday 28th June Balmoral Royal Cairns
Tuesday   6th July Bennachie
Thursday 15th July Inverbervie to Gourdon
Tuesday   3rd August To be arranged
Thursday 12th August To be arranged
Wednesday   1st September To be arranged

From the Spring 2010 “Messenger”

Tuesday 19th January dawned bright and cold and three walkers took on a short walk around the tracks and paths at Kirkhill forest, taking in a short trip to the Tampie monument. Conditions were a little snowy and icy underfoot but it was still nice to get out.

As I write this, Monday 8th February was the only other walk  this year which took us from Seaton park to Persley up the side of the river Don and back on the other side. A good day but a little cold with a short shower on the return.

The following are walks that are planned for the next couple of months-

Wednesday 14th April  Circular Walk of Loch Muick – Transport can be arrnged
Thursday 22nd April Walk round the grounds of Crathes Castle
Wed 9th June A coastal walk from Portsoy to Cullen – Transport can be arranged

From the Winter 2009 Messenger

A change to the booked walk on Thursday 8th October saw four of us take the bus to Bieldside and return to Aberdeen along the old Deeside railway line. This was a lovely walk with the colours of Autumn all around and apart from a short rain shower whilst we were in the Duthie Park, it was a nice day.

Other walks are planned; if you would like to join us or would like information on the planned walks, contact:

From the Autumn 2009 “Messenger”

In August two walkers had a lovely walk in the grounds of Glen Tanar estate, it was a lovely ramble with stunning views and plenty to see.

A recent walk from Newburgh to Collieston in good weather was enjoyed by four walkers and we even had time for a paddle before the sandwich lunch, a great day out. Lovely views over the dunes and beaches.

The following are some planned walks for the winter months.

Recent walks undertaken have been:

A windy walk up Brimmond and Elrick hills on 9th March.

A walk up Morrone at Braemar on 18th March saw a total change in the weather, it was lovely and warm with blue skies and we even had to put on some sun cream.

Banchory and Scolty were the destinations for the walkers on 20th March after a run by bus to Banchory  from Aberdeen. The weather managed to stay dry for this lovely walk.

23rd April saw four walkers tackle a lovely track up Bennachie following the Gordon way and then returning along the summits and back to the car.
